Parties lack internal democracy

Most political parties profess democracy but they have always lacked it internally. For decades the practice of not holding internal party elections went unnoticed and therefore became a common practice. The constitutions of these parties have largely remained a pretty booklet, not to be read, let alone adhered to. If the political parties do not have a democratic setup themselves, how can they be expected to govern democratically?

The increasing attacks on Indian students in Australia are a very serious issue and the Centre’s reaction to the matter leaves much to be desired. The Government of India should send Minister for External Affairs to Australia to take up the issue with Australian government and not just end up diplomatic parleys.
