Mango Festival ends with a sweet taste

NEW DELHI: The three-day 21st Mango Festival organised at Pitampura Dilli Haat here concluded on Sunday.

Mango growers from Lucknow, Ludhiana, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Saharanpur, Meerut participated in the event.

The concluding day of the festival featured a magic show, a mango eating competition for men, a mango quiz and a slogan writing competition.

In the mango eating competition, Siblee Khan won the first prize by eating 1.58 kg mango pulp. Deepak Grover and S. Husain won the second and the third prize respectively.

The festival provided an opportunity to savour the king of fruit in all its forms. Nearly 400 varieties including some rare ones such as Sirki, Jahangir and Neeleshwari were displayed alongside the popular Dushehari, Langra and Aphonso.

The festival also provides an opportunity for people to purchase pickles, chutneys, juices, jelly and jam made of mango. It showcased rare and commercially popular varieties of mangoes and featured cultural programmes by Punjabi Academy and Sahitya Kala Parishad.

Other highlights included magic shows and a seminar on “Mango production, post-harvest management and export”.

Though entry to the festival was free, gate entry ticket to Dilli Haat was applicable.

The festival was organised by Delhi Tourism and the Delhi Government in association with National Horticulture Board, Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, Punjab National Bank and Axis Bank.
