Six Chhota Shakeel gang members held

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Six men suspected to be members of the underworld don Chhota Shakeel gang have been arrested by Delhi Police’s Special Cell.

The accused were produced in a city court that remanded them to seven days’ police custody on Saturday. According to sources, the accused were arrested by a team under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police Sanjeev Yadav on Friday night. It is alleged that three of the accused were involved in several criminal cases. The police suspect that they had been assigned the task of eliminating some prominent persons.

The police are trying to find out if the accused had any connections with Rasheed Malabari, who was arrested by the Bangalore police along with three others and was planning to assassinate some prominent persons in the country.

Confirming the arrest, the Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) P.N. Aggarwal said the facts revealed by the accused were yet to be cross-checked. He refused to disclose their identity. “We don’t know as of now on what assignment the six had been sent to Delhi. We are interrogating the accused to know their involvements,” he said.
