Students mull withdrawal after third list

Parul Sharma

NEW DELHI: Many students are mulling withdrawing admission from one Delhi University college to get into another after the third cut-off list was put up by various colleges on Saturday.

With colleges lowering the cut-off percentage in the third list, students do not want to miss a chance of getting a college and course of their choice once the admissions according to the third list begin from Monday.

Hailing from Guwahati, Kusumbar Changmai had taken admission to B.Com (Honours) at Ramjas College. However, with Hans Raj College further relaxing the cut-off for the candidates from the Other Backward Classes in that course, he has decided to quit Ramjas.

On the other hand, his friend Sauradeep Dey had got through S.G.T.B. Khalsa College in B.Com (Hons). Following the third list, he decided to shift his loyalties to Ramjas as Hindu College continued to be beyond his reach. The two friends will be looking for private accommodation as college hostels offer limited seats.

Sneha Bansal had secured admission to Economics (Hons) at Daulat Ram College but she may now move to S.G.G.S. College of Commerce as the third cut-off list makes her eligible to pursue the same course at that institution.

Richa Aggarwal had opted for B.Sc. Physical Science at S.G.T.B Khalsa College, but after the third list she feels “spoilt for choice”. “After the third list, I can study the same course at Acharya Narendra Dev College, Maitreyi College and several others. I will settle for Kirori Mal College as it is a good North Campus college,” she said.

However, some students returned home disappointed with the third list.

Chandigarh-based Ruhani Kaur Sandhu, who has set her sights “only on top-rung colleges”, was still keeping her fingers crossed for the fourth cut-off list. “I want to study B.Com (Hons) at only the North Campus colleges or Lady Shri Ram College. But the cut-offs for these institutions are way too high for my 76 per cent. I am getting admission in some off-campus colleges, but I am not interested. I will wait for the cut-offs to drop in the fourth list or else will get admitted in a college in my city,” she said.

The eligible candidates who meet the requirements notified in the third admission list have been advised to complete their admission formalities in the concerned colleges by July 8.
