Chennai: India Cements will meet Canara Bank in the final of the all-India YSCA trophy tournament. In the semifinals at Chepauk on Saturday, India Cements defeated State Bank of Mysore (Bangalore) by six wickets while Canara Bank outplayed SBT Trivandrum by eight wickets. India Cements, opting to field, dismissed State Bank for 153 with left-arm spinner Sree Kumar Nair and off-spinner R. Ashwin picking three wickets each. The batting side was hampered by the lack of partnerships. M.K. Manjunath’s 21 was the highest individual score of the innings. When India Cements chased, Sree Kumar Nair was held at point off left-arm paceman S. Aravind early on and R. Prasanna (21) was snared outside the off-stump by seamer B. Akhil just when he was getting into his stride. However, opener K.B. Arun Karthik (51, 51b, 1x4, 2x6) batted with composure to string together two crucial partnerships – 53 off 53 balls for the third wicket with S. Suresh Kumar and 52 in 52 deliveries for the fourth with Hemang Badani. Suresh Kumar essayed a few delectable shots between point and third man before he was caught behind off Aravind for a 34-ball 31. The left-handed Badani (42 not out, 38b, 3x4, 2x6) batted well, easing off-spinner Udit Patel for the maximum near the sightscreen in a stroke of footwork and timing. Arun Karthik whipped Aravind over square-leg for a rather spectacular six but wisely worked the ball around for most part. Karthik fell to Udit Patel — he was picked up at deep mid-wicket — but Badani ensured that that the target was reached without a fuss. In another match, handy pace bowling by Raju Bhatkal (four for 25) and N.C. Aiyappa (two for eight) and some tight left-arm spin from Sunil Joshi (three for 19) enabled Canara Bank bundle out SBT Trivandrum for 93. Canara Bank had elected to field. Then, Bharat Chipli (51, 25b, 4x4, 4x6) produced an innings of explosive strokeplay. The young Manish Pandey was unbeaten with 21 as Canara Bank romped home. The scores: State Bank of Mysore (Bangalore) 153 in 29.3 overs lost to India Cements 154 for four in 25.3 overs (K.B. Arun Karthik 51, H. Badani 42 not out). SBT Trivandrum 93 in 27 overs (Raju Bhatkal four for 25) lost to Canara Bank 97 for two in 12 overs (Bharat Chipli 51, M. Pandey 21 not out).
