VIJAYAWADA: V. Trilok, a student who just completed Intermediate at Sri Chaitanya College, became the lucky winner of an HP laptop in the slogan writing contest organised by the British Council, Chennai, for students of colleges located in and around Vijayawada. The students, who were approached on their own campuses by representatives of the British Council a couple of months ago, were asked to answer three simple questions and complete the slogan “I want to study in the UK because…” Trilok’s slogan “Dare to dream, care to achieve; I dream to be in the UK and to achieve my ambition” won him the first prize, while Ch. Naga Harikrishna and Tejaswi Naidu, both students of Koneru Lakshmaiah College of Engineering (now KLU), won two second prizes – a Nano ipod each. Naga Harikrishna completed the slogan with the words “It is the choice of the leaders”, while Tejaswi Naidu’s slogan was “I want to be the best in all.” The prizes were given away at a programme held at The Gateway Hotel on Saturday. L. Dhanasekaran, Head (South India), Education UK, said that 17,600 students of 36 colleges participated in the contest and their entries were pruned to the 100 best ones by a panel of judges comprising M.V. Ramana Murthy of the KLU, G.M. Srirangam of the Andhra Loyola College and R.S. Saraswathi of the Acharya Nagarjuna University. The remaining 97 students were given a consolation prize of a wrist watch each. Road showMr. Dhanasekaran said that the British Council intended to organise a road show or exhibition in the city with the participation of UK academicians in the near future. He agreed with a suggestion made by students to keep them informed of the future programmes of the Council through email and publicity on the campus.
