VIJAYAWADA: The issue of “pocketing sports fee” seems to have not ended, if the developments at Dandamudi Rajagopala Rao Indoor Stadium were any indication. The people, who claim to be life members, were furious when the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation officials prevented them from entering the stadium. They were enraged with the VMC’s move and entered into a heated argument with the officials. Though the issue happened on Friday, it came to light on Saturday. Murali Mohan, who took charge as Regional Fire Officer (RFO) in VMC a couple of days ago, was asked to supervise the stadiums managed by Corporation. He went to the indoor stadium during early hours and began verifying the credentials of every entrant. The alleged life members could not show proof of their membership as it was not entered into records. Based on it, he asked them to leave the premises or pay the monthly fee inviting wrath of members. The inspections continued on second day also, and some members agreed to pay the monthly fee to practice in the stadium and use the gym facilities available there. When contacted, Mr. Mohan said, “There was no heated argument . It was a routine inspection, and we found that some of them were not having membership. I suggested them to meet Municipal Commissioner if they had any grievances.”
