TIRUCHI: The Tiruchi Corporation has requested the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to build box culverts across the Tiruchi-Chennai Bypass Road, which is currently being four-laned, near Subramaniapuram and G. Corner in the city. The request was made at a consultative meeting convened by Mayor S. Sujatha and Corporation Commissioner T. T. Balsamy with officials of the NHAI here on Friday. Corporation officials pointed out that a pipe culvert would not be adequate to carry the heavy discharges from the Subramaniapuram and Ranjithapuram areas during floods. Box culverts were also sought across the Railway grounds at G. Corner and near the National College on the Tiruchi-Dindigul Highway. Deputy Mayor M. Anbazhagan, the Project Director of NHAI, K. Viswanathan, and other officials attended the meeting.
