Good job: R. Seetharaman, Regional Chief Engineer, TNEB, giving away a prize to a student in Tiruchi. TIRUCHI: The wards of the employees of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board exhibited their talent by taking part in various competitions, all in Tamil language, held at the TNEB Circle Office here recently. The contest was organised by the ‘Min Ilakkia Poonga’ of TNEB as part of the board’s 53-rd anniversary of inception. A total of 40 students from LKG to higher secondary levels participated in about 10 events that included elocution; recital of songs composed by Bharathidasan; essay-writing; painting; story-writing; singing and poetry writing. “The LKG and UKG pupils participated in the story-telling contest; the event on Tirukkural was meant for students of Standards V and VI; the essay-writing for Standards VII and VIII,” explains former engineer, Gnanadevan. He also said that a large number of students evinced keen interest in participating in the essay-writing competitions. The topics included ‘Today’s lifestyle’; ‘Avvaiyar’s Aathichoodi’; ‘Television - a boon or bane?’; ‘Global warming’ so on and so forth. Distributing prizes to the winners, the Regional Chief Engineer, R. Seetharaman, appreciated the efforts made by the ‘Min Ilakkiya Poonga’ in organising the contest. The exclusive competition for the employees of TNEB also evoked overwhelming response, with 30 staff members participating in it. He also gave away prizes to J. Habibahani, T.V. Thara and B. Naveenram, all children of TNEB employees, who secured top marks in the SSLC examination; J. Sinthuja, K. Nithya and B. Karthiga with colourful marks in the Plus Two examinations. WinnersThe following are the winners with events mentioned in brackets: G. Amsarani, K. Akash, I. Amirtha (Story-telling); A. Thivyatharisni; T. Kavy and B. Preethi (Painting); J. Sneha, S. Vigneswaran and P. Gnaneswaran (Recital of Pavendar’s songs). The Superintending Engineer, Tiruchi, K. Venkataraman and the Organiser of the programme, A. Sathiyamoorthy spoke on the objective of the contest.
