Three suspected Maoists arrested

Special Correspondent

Kolkata: Three suspected Maoists have been arrested in the Ayodhya Hills region of Purulia district.

A gun, explosives, materials for laying mines, and some Maoist literature were found on them.

West Bengal Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen told reporters at the State secretariat that the three — two men and a woman — were believed to be members of Maoist squads.

“They are normally engaged in training people,” Mr. Sen said.

On the Lalgarh operations, Mr. Sen said that there were no further reports of blasts.

On the 16th day of the operations, two more Maoist strongholds were captured by the joint forces.

The forces met with no resistance, although blasts and gunshots were heard from this area earlier, police sources said.
