Aswin, Padmini in sole lead after four rounds

NEW DELHI: Defending champion Aswin Jayaram overpowered fellow International Master N. Srinath to emerge as the sole leader with a perfect score after four rounds of the Asian junior chess championship at Colombo on Saturday.

Drawn game

Homayoon Toufighi of Iran and world under-16 champion B. Adhiban of India drew their match.

In the girls’ section, Padmini Rout defeated Irans Mitra Hejazipour to head the table with four points.

Open: Aswin Jayaram (4) bt N. Srinath (3); Homayoon Toufighi (Iri, 3) drew with B. Adhiban (3).

Pouria Darini (Iri, 2.5) lost to M.R. Lalith Babu (3); P. Karthikeyan (3) bt Chua Zheng Yuan Terry (Sin, 2).

Shreyansh Daklia (2) lost to M. Shyam Sundar (3); Anwesh Upadhyaya (3) bt M.A.N. Danushka (Sri, 2).

K.R.K.C. Subasinghe (Sri, 2) lost to P. Saravana Krishna (3); V. Vishnu Prasanna (2.5) bt Shanaka Munasinghe (Sri, 1.5).

Girls: Padmini Rout (4) bt Mitra Hejazipour (Iri, 3); Kiran Manisha Mohanty (2.5) drew with Minoo Asgarizadeh (3).

S.D. Ranasinghe (Sri, 2) lost to Soumya Swaminathan (3); Dinushki Premanath (Sri, 2.5) drew with R. Preethi (2.5).

S.S.P. Abeywickrama (Sri, 2) lost to N. Raghavi (3); Bhakti Kulkarni (2.5) bt Wang Hsin Jung (Tpe, 1).
