Amman: For the fifth consecutive time, the Indian team won the Zakaria Adamjee Trophy for the Bridge Federation of Asia and Middle East (BFAME) championship played once in two years. In the finals played on Saturday here, against traditional rival Pakistan, it took a lead of 31 IMPs (68-37) in the first segment of 16 boards. It had a carry over of eight points and the total lead was 39. In the second segment, Pakistan recovered well to wipe off 23 IMPs and came within 16 IMPs with three boards to go. There were no scores on Boards on Boards 30 and 31, but India had another vulnerable game swing in Board 32 to win the match by 29 IMPs. India was represented by Kiran Nadar, Subhash Gupta, Rajesh Dalal, K.R. Venkataraman, Bachiraju Satyanarayana and Sunit Chokshi. India had earlier won in 1997 (Cape Town), 2001 (Bahrain), 2003 (Amman), 2005 (Dhaka) and 2007 (Karachi). India and Pakistan will represent Zone IV in the Open Event of World Championships for the Bermuda Bowl to be played in Sao Paulo in August-September. In the women’s event for the Venice Cup in the same championship, the zone will be represented by Jordan and Pakistan and for the Seniors Trophy, Pakistan and India have qualified.
