Chennai Silks to open showroom in Kochi

Special Correspondent

KOCHI: Dileep, film star, will inaugurate the first showroom of the Chennai Silks here, at the northern end of Mahatma Gandhi Road, on Monday. The nine-floor showroom has an area of over 1.25-lakh sq.ft.

The Chennai Silks, a known name in Tamil Nadu, is foraying into Kerala with much expectation, its senior director, K. Vinayagam, said at a press conference here on Friday. The enterprise, with a turnover of Rs.1,500 crore and a leader in the textile export sector with an annual revenue of Rs.300 crore from this count, provides finished products to many brands of international repute, K. Nandagopal, director, and P.A. Ravindran, general manager, said.

Its sister concern, SCM Textiles Spinners, is one of the largest cotton yarn suppliers of the country, they said.

The group had entered the Guinness Book of Records and other record books by producing the costliest silk sari. The weaving of a famous painting by Raja Ravi Varma helped it earned this accolade, they said.

It has weaving centres at Aarni, Kancheepuram, and Bangalore. As the finished product reaches the customer directly from the production house, the company offers bargain prices, a press release said.
