CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has urged the people, especially the youth, to draw inspiration from the life of the late Gulzari Lal Nanda whose birth anniversary fell on Saturday. In a message here, the Chief Minister said the country’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, was conferred upon Gulzari Lal Nanda for his outstanding contribution to the nation. The late leader was twice made acting Prime Minister after the demise of Jawaharlal Nehru and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Mr. Hooda described him as a great freedom fighter and a great patriot who joined the non-cooperation movement against the British rulers under the stewardship of Mahatma Gandhi. A founder of the Bharat Sevak Samaj, Gulzari Lal Nanda had started his political career from Haryana as he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Kaithal in 1967. He was again elected from the same constituency in 1971. He set up many social organisations. He also founded the Kurukshetra Development Board and played a vital role in the development of Kurukshetra.
