State to seek stay on HC order

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Left with less than 100 hours to take a decision, the State Government has decided to make a last-ditch attempt at the Supreme Court to seek a stay on the Full Bench order of the Karnataka High court.

The Government has already sent Education Department officials to Delhi to initiate steps to move the Supreme Court for an expeditious hearing on the State’s appeal against the Full Bench order. Advocate-General Ashok Harnahalli told The Hindu that he is likely to go to Delhi on Monday.

The Supreme Court had ordered the case to be listed for August 8, and the State will now have to file an application for earlier hearing.

The State has also decided to request senior advocate P.P. Rao, who had appeared for the State in the Supreme Court, to be prepared to argue the case seeking a stay.
