‘Special officer, appointed by the government, yet to contact ACA’ President contacts BCCI legal cell on the ‘takeover bid by the government’
Clearing the air: Andhra Cricket Association president Gokaraju Ganga Raju addresses a press conference after the executive committee meeting in Vijayawada on Saturday. VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Cricket Association president Gokaraju Ganga Raju on Saturday asserted that there were no group politics in the ACA and all the decisions against ‘excluded’ secretary V. Chamundeswaranath were taken unanimously in the executive committee meetings. Speaking to media persons after the EC meeting on Saturday, Mr. Ganga Raju said that the association was mired in controversies only because of one person. “Even the members sympathetic towards Chamundeswaranath stood by us in the hour of crisis,” he claimed. As many as 21 members attended the EC meeting, with five members going on leave. Mr. Ganga Raju said there was no pressure from any quarter and the issue would be settled in the general body meeting to be held here on July 26. He said that M. Ratan, the special officer appointed by the Government to probe into the complaints lodged by women cricketers against Chamundeswaranath, was yet to approach them. “Right now Mr. Ratan is eliciting the views of the players,” he said. Refutes ‘allegations’While Chamudeswaranath had approached a court of law in Guntur alleging that the minutes of the EC meeting, in which he was excluded from discharging the responsibilities of ACA secretary, were tampered with, the ACA was yet to proceed legally. “We have circulated the proceedings of the minutes to all our members and they said that there were no discrepancies,” he said. Asked whether he discussed the current controversy with BCCI officials during his recent visit to Mumbai to participate in the fixtures committee meeting, Mr. Ganga Raju said that he briefed BCCI secretary N. Srinivasan about it. “I also approached the BCCI legal cell on the takeover bid by the State government,” he disclosed. The EC discussed the developmental activities and about the forthcoming one-day match either against South Africa or Sri Lanka, which was allotted to the ACA by the BCCI.
