Jodhpur rainfall maximum: 19.8 mm Barmer hottest at 42.4 degree C NEW DELHI: The temperature showed an upward trend at many places in North India’s plains on Saturday as rain eluded them for the second consecutive day though parts of Rajasthan and the national Capital received light to moderate showers. Most parts of Rajasthan witnessed sporadic rain during the past 24 hours with Jodhpur recording a maximum of 19.8 mm rainfall, followed by Bharatpur 7.2 mm. While Barmer was the hottest place in the State at 42.4 degrees Celsius, Jaisalmer recorded a high of 41.2 degrees. Jaipur remained hot with a high of 37 degrees, two notches above normal. Delhi also witnessed sporadic rain at various places which kept the mercury at tolerable level in the Capital. The maximum temperature here settled at 36.7 degrees, one degree above normal, as compared to Friday’s 37.2 degrees. In the absence of monsoon rain, the mercury rose by a few notches in Punjab and Haryana with Hisar sweating it out at 41 degrees. While Hisar was hotter by four degrees above normal, Ambala registered a maximum of 37.4 degrees. In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a high of 38.4 degrees, followed by Patiala at 38 degrees and Ludhiana at 36.7 notches with no possibility of rains in the next few days. The mercury increased by five notches in Chandigarh, settling at a maximum of 37.4 degrees. Meanwhile, snowfall in upper reaches and rains in plains brought down the temperatures appreciably across the Kashmir valley. The day temperature in Srinagar dipped to 20.6 degrees, seven degrees below normal, while the night temperature also showed a downward trend. Pahalgam hill resort in south Kashmir was the coldest place as the minimum temperature dipped to 6.6 degrees here. While day temperature was normal at Jammu, the mercury remained four degrees below normal in night. The winter capital recorded a high of 38 notches. The temperature rose marginally in Shimla and other parts of Himachal on Saturday in the absence of rain. The capital city recorded a high of 25.7 degrees, one degree up from Friday. -- PTI
