CHENNAI: The suspected case of resistant A(H1N1) flu in Chennai has been cleared with the latest test result proving that the 29-year-old male is completely free of the virus. Blood samples lifted from the patient, who came to the Communicable Diseases Hospital, Tondiarpet, after he and his wife developed symptoms of swine flu on return from a trip to the U.S., were sent to the National Institute of Virology for testing. He had been testing positive for the virus even after being put through the regular treatment schedule. The results, which came Saturday, showed his blood free of the virus. The patient was discharged on Friday. No other person quarantined in the CDH on suspicion of swine flu has tested positive for the virus, Public Health Department officials added. The total of positive cases in the State remains at nine. Boy tests negativeIn Madurai, the second swab test done on the eight-year-old boy, who came from the United States and tested positive for A (H1N1) influenza (swine flu), was discharged from Government Rajaji Hospital following negative results here on Friday. According to S. M. Sivakumar, Dean (in charge), GRH, the results of the second swab tests from National Institute of Communicable Diseases, New Delhi, have proved negative and hence the patient was discharged.
