Brigadier Usman remembered

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Describing Brigadier Mohammed Usman as a symbol of unswerving patriotism, Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal on Saturday said his life and supreme sacrifice for the motherland adorned the pages of history.

Speaking on the 61st Martyrdom Day of Brig. Usman, the Minister observed that there are millions of unsung heroes who march to the battlefield with the resolve that they will not allow their motherland to be invaded by the enemies. “Rarely do we remember such fearless soldiers who give away their lives for the country without sparing a thought for their families. Brig. Usman is a symbol of that sacrifice and nationalism.”

He said Brig. Usman, who was the brigade commander of 50 Para Brigade, was given the task to save Naushera and Jhangar, two strategic locations in Kashmir, when the Pakistan Army along with “Kabayali” raiders invaded the State. “Had he not been killed during the battle on July 3, 1948, he would have been the head of the Indian Army. Usman represented inclusiveness of India.”
