Mylavaram rape case: two constables, trader held

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: The city police arrested two constables working in the Mylavaram police station and a businessman from the same town on the charge of raping a 28-year-old woman and threatening her with dire consequences in a private lodge at Mylavaram on March 18.

The arrested were: constables Aalla Venkata Rao, 41, and Panuganti Prasad, 37, and Sheik Mastan Vali alias Munna, 29, a bakery owner in Mylavaram.

This was stated at a press conference addressed by Police Commissioner K.V. Rajendranath Reddy on Saturday. The Commissioner said two more accused persons – Krishna Kishore, a close relative of the victim, and Venkata Narayana, a seeds trader of Mylavaram – were absconding and the police were on the lookout for them.

The two constables and the businessman were arrested on Friday and produced in the court, he said.
