Auto, taxi strike affects life

Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: Taxis, autorickshaws and small vehicles kept off the roads for 12 hours throughout the State on Saturday in protest against the increase in the prices of petrol and diesel.

People, especially in urban areas, were put to a lot of trouble because of the absence of autorickshaws. They had to depend solely on the city services of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation in places such as Thiruvananthapuram and private bus services elsewhere. The buses were more crowded than they usually are. Marriage parties were affected by the taxi strike. The strike was in response to a call issued by the joint coordination committee of the organisations of motor workers.

The committee warned of an indefinite strike if the hike was not withdrawn.
