Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: As many as 296 of the 731 applications received were disposed of at the adalat held at the Pareeksha Bhavan here on Saturday. The remaining applications will be disposed of within two weeks. As many as 33,316 duplicate certificate cards were distributed through three special drives last year. Decisions were taken on 23,610 applications for correcting the date of birth. Education Minister M.A. Baby, who attended the adalat, along with Law Minister M. Vijayakumar, said that steps would be taken to make the functioning of the Pareeksha Bhavan more efficient and the disposal of complaints faster. The Pareeksha Bhavan would be computerised to enable the filing of complaints online from August. Arrangements would be made to enable the complainants to find out the position of their complaints. The set-up for the correction of date of birth would be decentralised. The decentralisation would be done at the level of the Assistant Education Officer for the correction of the date of birth of students of the primary level and at the level of the District Education Officer for students up to the high school level. A fast-track system would be introduced for issuing certificates required at short notice for employment and higher studies purposes. The Director of Public Instruction had been asked to prepare a scheme for the purpose.
