PSC to seek registrations

Registered candidates need not submit applications

A solution to duplication of effort

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Public Service Commission will soon introduce a one-time registration system for job-seekers that is expected to reduce drastically the formality for submitting applications and help ease the workload of the employees.

Official sources told The Hindu here that the registration system had been planned to the advantage of the lakhs of youth who approached the commission for employment every year. It offered the twin advantage of easing the burden of the applicants and reducing the workload of the commission.

As per the existing system, an applicant has to furnish copies of certificates as well as other testimonials along with every application. At any given time, the commission will be processing about 50 lakh applications and manual verification of documents is perhaps the most time-consuming and rigorous task.

The proposed registration system is considered to be a solution to such difficulties and to duplication of effort. Once a candidate applies for a job, the commission will give him an index number which can be used till getting a suitable placement.

Details of the educational qualification of applicants will be stored in the commission’s database so that it can be used as a ready-reckoner. On acquiring an additional qualification, the candidates will have to inform the commission for suitably updating the files.

By simplifying the verification procedure, the time taken for processing can be reduced to the minimum. It will also have a cumulative effect on the preparation of rank lists, apart from expediting communication with the candidates.

The database will help the commission identify suitable candidates for various vacancies arising in the State. The data can be effectively utilised for planning and other purposes too.

The commission is gearing up to introduce the system within the next few months, but it will become fully functional only within a year. The registration system is considered a primary step for making the process of submitting applications more easy and efficient.

Preparation of the database will pave the way for introducing a system of submitting applications through ‘SMS’ in due course. But such steps are not intended for total automation of the commission, sources said.
