Semi-precious stones seized at airport
CHENNAI: Officials of the Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs at the Chennai airport on Thursday seized semi precious stones from a passenger who arrived from Sri Lanka. The seized stones were valued at Rs 3.94 lakh.
An official release from the Customs said on suspicion the authorities intercepted a passenger and a search in his baggage resulted in the recovery of the stones.
The passenger was not in possession of any valid document for the legal import of the stones. The goods were non-bona fide in nature and in commercial quantity. As they were not declared, they were seized under the provisions of the Customs Act 1962. Further investigation is on. — Special Correspondent
