Two mill owners fined for stealing power

Bangalore: A penalty of more than Rs. 3.8 lakh was imposed on owners of two flour mills and a private water supply plant for stealing power.

According to a communiqué here on Friday, special inspection teams and vigilance squads which inspected a large number of electrical installations on Wednesday across the State had booked many installations for power theft.

The Vigilance Squad of Bijapur caught a flour mill at Aher Tanda, Bijapur taluk, for committing power theft by drilling a hole on the meter and inserting a stick to stop meter recording while the Vigilance Squad of Gulbarga caught one flour mill owner at Hallisugur village, Shahapur taluk, for committing power theft by tampering with meter security seals and manipulating meter readings.

A penalty of Rs. 1.37 lakh and Rs. 1.18 lakh respectively was imposed on both installations and criminal cases booked.

Similarly, the Vigilance Squad of Rajajinagar, Bangalore, caught one private commercial water supply plant at Jaimaruthinagar for committing power theft by drilling a hole on the meter and inserting a stick to stop meter recording.
