YSR should secure rail projects for State: TDP

HYDERABAD: The TDP has expressed concern over the ‘injustice’ meted out to the State in the Railway budget for 2009-10 and said there was still time for the Congress to protect the State’s interests, at least to some measure.

TDP Parliamentary Party leader Nama Nageswara Rao and former MPs K. Yerran Naidu and R. Chandrasekhar Reddy demanded that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy lead the MPs from the State to mount pressure on the Centre to secure projects that were pending approval since years before the budget was formally passed. The TDP, they said, was ready to cooperate with the government in its efforts .

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, the senior TDP leaders lamented that successive Railway Ministers were diverting major share of projects to their respective States.

The Andhra Pradesh Senior Citizens’ Confederation also expressed disappointment with the Railway budget over the continuing fare differential. R.N. Mittal, president, in a statement here on Saturday he said the 50 per cent fare concession offered to women of over 50 years of age has not been extended to men over 60.
