Schoolchildren join plantation drive

KORAPUT: Children from three schools joined hands with forest officials in planting at least 12 kinds of trees near the Forest Colony UP School here on Saturday. Atish Kumar Behera, DFO, said this year root trainer seedling was adopted in place of the earlier polypot seedling method for maximisation of the growth of hairy roots to facilitate a quicker growth of the plant. The forest division has plans to plant 15 lakh seedlings of different varieties of plants in 6,000 hectares during the current season, he added. Suresh Kumar Rath, forest ranger, and other officials from the forest department were also present.
