Kakinada: As a part of its public private partnership initiatives, JNTU-Kakinada is planning to introduce a two-year P.G course in clinical research in collaboration with Apollo Hospitals and Rangaraya Medical College. Vice-Chancellor Allam Appa Rao has for this purpose held formal negotiations with Apollo Hospitals Chief Executive Officer Dr. K Hari Prasad on Saturday. Prof. Rao told media persons that any student qualified in medicine, pharmacy and engineering courses was eligible for admission to the Master of Clinical Research (MCR) course, which comprises 18 months of classroom work and practicals for six months. Clinical research is a branch of medical science that determines the safety and effectiveness of medications, devices, diagnostic products and treatment regimens for human use. It (clinical research)’s results will be useful for prevention, treatment, diagnosis or for relief from symptoms of a disease. An MCR degree with a B.Tech, B.Pharm and MBBS as basic qualification would give the upcoming professionals a clear edge over their competitors seeking jobs in pharmaceutical and drug companies, drug designing firms, hospitals and laboratories and clinical data management sector. India requires at least 50,000 clinical research experts in one year. Demand for these new breed of scientists will be therefore immense and offers tremendous opportunities. JNTU-K Registrar V Ravindra and his team are working out the modalities under the supervision of the V-C.
