A great opportunity for the students to explore the job market, says V-C Selection criteria include keyboard, problem solving, communication
who’s the best? Students attending an interview session at the Career and Awareness Recruitment Drive at Andhra University in Visakhapatnam on Saturday. VISAKHAPATNAM: Around 5,000 candidates participated at the Career Awareness and Recruitment Drive at Andhra University Dr Ambedkar Assembly Hall on Saturday. A joint initiative of the Institute of Service Management of the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education and NASSCOM, the event witnessed a steady stream of undergraduates, graduates and post-graduates take part in the recruitment drives conducted by nine companies. The programme was inaugurated by Chairman of APSCHE Prof. K.C. Reddy. Addressing the gathering, Prof. Reddy said that this was the 17th CARD programme in the State during the past three years and the first one to be held in this academic year. “This programme is aimed to create awareness about the needs and requirements of the job market. Employment trends have undergone a big change. This experience would help the students to assess themselves and to know their weaknesses as well as offer them wider opportunities,” he said. AU Vice-Chancellor Prof. B. Satyanarayana said that the programme was a great opportunity for the students to explore the job market. Director of ISM-APSCHE Dr. C. Bhanu gave the vote of thanks. Dr. B. Mohan Venkatram, coordinator of CARD was present. Companies like HCL, LIC, HSBC, Sutherland, Coke, India Infoline, Max Life Insurance and Laser Systems Ltd. took part in the programme. Majority of the job posts were in Vizag. HCL had vacancies at its centre in Chennai and Noida while Infosys selected candidates for all locations. The selection criteria stressed by the representatives were communication, basic written, keyboard and problem solving abilities. The selection process included a preliminary interview followed by written tests.
