JEE counselling likely to be held from July 14

Staff Reporter

Intimation letters to be sent after finalisation of the venue

BHUBANESWAR: Counselling for admissions into professional courses may begin from July 14 with committee of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), Orissa almost deciding to hold the counselling at Bhubaneswar.

Sources in JEE Secretariat said the committee had zeroed in on two places in the capital city for which police permissions would be sought.

Once Commissionerate of Police gives its clearance for the venue, dispatching of intimation letters to rank holders would begin from Monday.

JEE authorities held meeting with Industry Secretary Sourabh Garg here on Saturday.

Sources said the counselling would be conducted between July 14 and August 31.

Details of the counselling (session wise) were likely to be posted on Monday afternoon.

Confusion had been prevailing over the selection of venue of counselling this year after Orissa University of Agriculture Technology refused to extend its facilities to be used for the purpose.

Earlier the JEE authorities had scheduled July 11 to start counselling.

The largest counselling for admission into professional courses in Orissa would see about 85,000 students coming from different corners of the State and outside as well to Bhubaneswar.

Arrival of equal number of parents also makes the venue crowded.

If any law and order disturbance crops up, it gets difficult for police to control it immediately.

On earlier occasions, demonstrations had been held outside the counselling hall in protest against hike in admission fees into medical colleges.

Moreover, guardians too had participated in the protests.

A JEE authority said before selecting the venue of counselling, security aspects would be discussed in detail.
