RIVER UNDER THREAT: A crane is used to transport a country craft seized by the police for illegal sand-mining in the Karamana river, near the Thiruvallam bridge, in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday. Unauthorised sand-mining is wreaking havoc on the river ecosystem and is responsible for the collapse of banks at several places.
