Paresh’s hat-trick goes in vain for IOC

CHENNAI: Despite a hat-trick from left-arm spinner Paresh Patel, holder IOC Mumbai lost to Rail Wheel Factory by 53 runs in the all-India YSCA Trophy cricket tournament here on Friday. Both teams, however, failed to qualify for the semifinals.

In a match reduced to 15 overs-a-side due to overnight rain, Rail Wheel Factory, electing to bat, made 148 for six. Skipper K. Erregov made 70 not out (48b, 8x4, 1x6). IOC was dismissed for 95.

In another match, SBT (Tvm) defeated Chemplast Sanmar ‘B’ by 30 runs to head the bottom half with 12 points and enter the last four stage. Medium-pacer C. Vinoth Kumar claimed five for 16.

India Cements, defeating Canara Bank by 14 runs, won its third consecutive match in the super league to top the other half. The side had already made it to the semifinals. Despite the defeat, Canara Bank reached the last four phase.

SBM (Bangalore) beat IOB by 58 runs to enter the semifinals. B. Akhil (78 not out, 46b, 4x6, 6x4) sparkled for SBM.

The scores:

Rail Wheel Factory 148 for six in 15 overs (K. Erregov 70 n.o., V. Cheluvaraj 41, Paresh Patel three for 26, including a hat-trick) bt IOC Mumbai 95 in 13.5 overs. Points: RWF 5, IOC minus one.

SBT (Tvm) 191 for nine in 28 overs (Raiphy Vincent Gomez 44, V.A. Jagadeesh 42) bt Chemplast Sanmar ‘B’ 161 in 24.5 overs (Petson Mathews 44, Tinu Yohannan 40, C. Vinoth Kumar five for 16). SBT 4, Chemplast Sanmar ‘B’ 0.

India Cements 150 for five in 20 overs (S. Suresh Kumar 53) beat Canara Bank (Bangalore) 136 for seven in 20 overs (Manish Pande 54). India Cements 4, Canara Bank 0.

SBM (Bangalore) 208 for four in 30 overs (B. Akhil 78 n.o.) bt IOB 150 for eight in 30 overs (Vasanth Saravanan 58). SBM 5, IOB minus one .
