Former Ministers’ plea dismissed
CHENNAI: The Principal Special Judge for CBI cases here, M. Mohammed Essath Ali, on Friday dismissed petitions by two former All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Ministers, K.A. Sengottaiyan and Alagu Thirunavukkarasu, cited as accused in the “gifts case” against former Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa.
The two prayed the court to cancel the cognisance taken by it because of the failure of the prosecution to produce necessary sanction to prosecute them in the case.
The CBI case was that the former Chief Minister had allegedly accepted 89 demand drafts worth Rs.2 crore drawn in her favour on her birthday in 1992. Mr. Sengottaiyan and Mr. Alagu Thirunavukkarasu were alleged to have committed an offence of abetting her. — Special Correspondent
