MADURAI: Self-confidence and indestructible self-belief with a target oriented approach and maintenance of right physical and mental balance would lead us towards the path of achieving greater success in life, said G. Veerapandian, who secured the 53rd rank in the All India Civil Services Examination this year.

Hailing from a socially oppressed class, Mr. Veerapandian, after facing several hurdles, was able to achieve this feat, and in recognition of his achievement, he was felicitated here recently. Mr. Veerapandian, who used to work at an eatery making parottas while studying, claimed that there was no substitute for hard work. “I took Civil Services examination as a challenge to break the myths like government school students cannot achieve a greater position and having education through Tamil language in a globalising world could be a hurdle.” During his acceptance speech, he narrated a Punjabi story highlighting the importance of hard work and perseverance to reach greater heights.

Indra Kumar, Commissioner of Income Tax, in his address, said that education was the only tool that could be used to achieve the seemingly impossible and this youngster and his remarkable achievement was a symbol of hope for the members of the oppressed community. Anbuchezian, PG Assistant, Thiru. Vi. Ka. Corporation Higher Secondary School, who taught Geography to Mr. Veerapandian was felicitated.
