CM praises budget

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Friday praised Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee for presenting a budget keeping in mind the welfare of the poor man.

In a statement issued here, the Chief Minister said he fully agreed with her argument that one should look at the social viability of the railway project, instead of measuring them only on the scale of economic viability. “It is appreciable that there is no hike in passenger and freight rates,” he said.

He also thanked her for various schemes, including the decision to convert the Chennai Central Station into a world class one and setting up of a medical college at the railway hospital.
