Hold on as the heavens open up

Effective rain water harvesting being adopted to save every drop of water, writes S. Sandeep Kumar

Rain management: Runoff water from road tops can be harvested by constructing storage tanks.

Water saved is water generated. With emphasis on rain water harvesting and improving ground water levels rising everyday, companies and organisations are coming up with better and effective ways of rain harvesting technology.

Hava Water Harvesting Technology Pvt. Ltd. claims to have conceived a new way of saving rain water through percolation tank bore method. The method involves increasing ground water by harvesting runoff water from the rooftops and road tops by constructing storage tanks.

A water harvesting percolation tank bore is constructed using special rig machinery capable of drilling 1 ft diameter bore. The tank will be of 2 ft width, 5 ft length in size and would be dug up 2 ft deep, surrounded by CC walls and will have RCC manhole covers.

Tank bore method

The storage tank on the bore hole is filled with metal sealed by RCC slab (6 inches and a PVC pipe is fitted with water filter. Once the tank is constructed a bore pit is dug up 30 ft deep for storing water.

The tank would cover up an area of 150 to 200 sq. mts and the water stored in this tank can be extracted through a conventional hand pump bore or motor bore, informs Hava Water Harvesting Technology Private Limited Managing Director S.V.A Rehmani.

Unlike the conventional rain water harvesting pits, this percolation tank bore method is effective as these tanks are dug up only 30 ft depth. Owing to short depth, these tanks get filled faster compared to conventional rain water harvesting pits, resulting in easy extraction of water, claims Mr. Rehmani.

Above all, the tank does not consume enough space. Since the storage tank will have RCC slab, even vehicles can pass on it. The tank can be cleaned easily and does not involve expense in maintenance.

The storage tank construction, including bore digging charges would cost Rs. 14,000, he informs. For details contact: 92463-66867 / 99515-94129.
