OBC quota likely at IP University from this year

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Naresh Kumar met Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday and submitted a memorandum demanding 27 per cent reservation for OBCs at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University from the upcoming new academic year.

Dr. Kumar lamented that despite 10 years having passed since the opening of the university, OBC reservation had still not been implemented and because of this thousands of students from this category have to go to other States for education.

He said there are 365 villages in Delhi and most of the OBCs live in these. Moreover, he added, the facilities for higher education were inadequate in these villages.

Dr. Kumar also argued that Jats in Delhi have been kept in the OBC list and so they should also be provided the benefit of OBC reservation at IP University.

It was a matter of deep regret, he added, that Jats in the Capital were not getting this reservation at Delhi University because it was a Central University.
