Held for furnishing fake documents

CHENNAI: Umesh Mathew (28) of Idukki district in Kerala, who furnished fake documents for obtaining a visa at the U.S. Consulate, was arrested by the Royapettah police on Friday.

Three others who helped him with the fake documents were also apprehended.

According to police sources, the accused gave bank statements, Income Tax returns and offer of appointment letter issued by a company in the U.S. in support of his visa application.

After the documents were found to be fake, the Consulate authorities lodged a complaint with the Royapettah police, who arrested Umesh and his associates Joshi Mathew (58) of Kerala, Nainar Thambi (48) of Tiruvallur and Mohammed (33) of Seven Wells.

The accused were remanded to judicial custody.
