VISAKHAPATNAM: A schoolboy who was kidnapped for ransom was rescued by the Gajuwaka Police in less than 20 hours. Pavan Kumar, a 10th Class student of a private school at Gajuwaka, was picked up from his school after 6 p.m. on Thursday by his neighbour Manohar. The accused, who works for a private mobile service provider, and his accomplice Narasinga Rao, a private electrician, told the boy that there was mobile radiation in the area and that they were going to check the towers at Anakapalle and Narsipatnam. Pavan agreed to accompany them as Manohar was his neighbour. The duo called upon Pavan’s parents from Tallapalem junction and demanded Rs.10 lakhs as ransom for release of the boy. The parents immediately lodged a complaint with the Gajuwaka Police. Assistant Commissioner of Police (South) Md. Khan formed three special teams headed by SI s Ramakrishna, R. Srinivas and Women SI Lakshmi under the supervision of CI Annepu Narasimha Murthy. The teams were deputed in three different directions to track down the culprits. The police zeroed in on the kidnappers at Pithapuram around 1 p.m. on Friday. The boy was rescued and the kidnappers were arrested. The boy’s parents profusely thanked the police.
