Court admits engineers’ plea

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Friday admitted petitions by more than 500 engineers of the Public Works Department challenging an order by the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT) setting aside their recruitment.

A KAT Bench of A.V. Sreenivasa Reddy and G. Raju Prem Kumar had on May 25, 2009 allowed applications by Sunil Kumar Gurulingappa of Gulbarga and hundreds of others and quashed the Karnataka Civil Services (Absorption of Persons appointed on contract basis against backlog vacancies in category of Assistant Engineers and Junior Engineers) Rules and their appointment in the Public Works Department (PWD), Irrigation and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Departments (RDPR).

A Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice P.D. Dinakaran and Justice V.G. Sabhahit, admitted the appeal and ordered it to posted with similar matters.
