BBMP relents on Brigade Road parking

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Parking problems of those shopping on Brigade Road may be solved temporarily with the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) deciding to allow the Brigade’s Shops and Establishments’ Association (BSEA) to restore the earlier system.

The BSEA had been maintaining automated parking for the past five years as per an agreement with the civic authority. The revenue that was generated was shared equally between the association and the BBMP.

Problems

With parking becoming free, the parking woes of shoppers had compounded.

The association claimed that business had dropped drastically. Sources said that a few members of the BSEA met BBMP Commissioner Bharat Lal Meena and urged him to restore the previous system. The association has been accorded permission to maintain parking on Brigade Road, until the tender process is completed.
