VISAKHAPATNAM: The 12.5 km pipeline from the Town Service Reservoir to Kommadi will be inaugurated on Saturday by Major Industries Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana who is also the district in charge minister. The pipeline has been laid at a cost of Rs.23.4 crores by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. It caters to the water needs of two lakh people living at Madhurawada, Bakkavanipalem, Potinamallayyapalem, Paradesipalem, Kommadi, Endada, Gudlavanipalem and other areas. It supplies water to these parts when the Gosthani dries up in the summer. The pipeline takes into account the increase in demand to 8 mgd by 2023 and to 11 mgd by 2038, says an official release. The 900mm MS pipeline laying has been completed in 18 months by Indian Hume Pipe Company Limited and the Viswa Infrastructure and Services Pvt Ltd. The Godavari water will be supplied from TSR by the pipeline. Mayor Pulusu Janardhana Rao, Commissioner B. Sreedhar, Superintendenting Engineers C.G.K. Raju and V.
