Guntur
GUNTUR: The water woes of Guntur city increased with several of the fringe colonies not getting sufficient supply and some corporators threatening to resign. The entire machinery starts working on a war-footing to streamline the supply. Guntur Mayor Rayapati Mohan Saikrishna and Commissioner K. Illambarthi on Friday visited several of the reservoirs and held discussions with GMC engineers to improve the supply to Navbharat Nagar, Vikas Nagar, Srinivasaraothota, Sangadigunta and Divisions 18 and 19. The Division 18 corporator Bharati tendered her resignation on Thursday for lack of water supply in her area due to leakages in the supply pipelines. Repairs were not carried out properly. Municipal Commissioner Illambarthi said that they were discussing provision of inter-connectivity in the pipelines in the far-flung areas/tail-end. Main aim“Our main aim is to ensure there was no water supply problem in the next summer season,” he added. Currently water was being supplied through 36 tankers in the city, which would be increased to 50 tankers a day from Saturday, he said.
