VISAKHAPATNAM: Organic farming must be encouraged on a large-scale and farmers must be explained the fact that use of quality organic manure would give them good yield, Minister for Agriculture N. Raghuveera Reddy said here on Friday. The Government would bring in a law on the use of organic manure, during the next Assembly session, Mr. Raghuveera Reddy said at a review meeting held with officials of agriculture, horticulture, sericulture and drip irrigation departments. Kharif must be taken as challenge and farmers must be encouraged to bring in more yield. The required quantity of seed and fertilizers must be made ready for them and farmers should be explained the exact quantity of fertilizer to be used according to the land nature, the Minister said. Seeds must be purified before distribution, he said. He suggested that agriculture officials and ‘Adarsha Rytus’ (ideal farmers) must from into groups and adopt mandals. Regarding vegetables, Mr. Raghuveera Reddy suggested that efforts must be made to form clusters of small and marginal farmers in the mandals adjacent to the city to grow vegetables all through the year. District Minister in-charge Kanna Lakshminarayana, Minister for Tribal Welfare P. Balaraju, Zilla Praja Parishad Chairman Gorle Ramamurthy Naidu, Collector J. Syamala Rao, MLAs Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao and G. Babu Rao also attended.
