Cute: Exhibition-cum-sale of handicrafts in Tiruchi on Friday. TIRUCHI: Eye-catching handicrafts and handloom varieties are bound to attract the visitors at the special annual exhibition currently in progress at the Poompuhar showroom here. The exhibition organised by the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited in connection with the Adi month, displays panchaloha bangles, sandalwood idols, artistic Thanjavur plates, glittering panchaloha idols made in Swamimalai, brass lamps made at the Corporation’s unit at Nachiyarkoil, metallic bells for performing poojas and stone idols. Coinciding with summer, the exhibition with a view to beat the heat, has included special ‘spatika’ garland. The new arrivals include handicrafts made of teak brought from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh and artistic clay pots, idols of elephants, horses made of earth. The General Manager, District Industries Centre, B. Baskaran inaugurated the exhibition which is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. till July 31 on all working days. According to K. Chidambaranathan, Manager, Poompuhar Showroom, handicrafts worth several lakh rupees are on display. A sales target of Rs. Four lakh has been fixed for the current Adi season. The minimum price of a handicraft is Rs. 12 and the maximum, Rs. 55,000. A special discount of 10 per cent would be available for all varieties and 15 to 20 per cent for specific varieties.
