KOLKATA: Chirag United SC added an important player to its line-up, signing midfielder Lalkamal Bhowmik who had turned out for Mohun Bagan in the past three seasons. The local football transfers on Friday also saw United SC retaining Subhasish Roy Chowdhury and importing defender Safar Sardar from George Telegraph. The team also recruited under-19 player Bivas Ghosh. Mohammedan Sporting also expanded its squad by signing Anupam Sarkar from East Bengal, and Jamir Ali Mondal (Air India) and Rajib Shukla (Mumbai FC) on inter-State transfer. HQ-TB team winsA combined team of Headquarters and Third Battalion (HQ-TB) triumphed in the Kolkata Police inter-unit rugby tournament, beating Special Forces unit 10-0 in the final here on Friday. The teams were tied 0-0 at half-time. The Special Forces team, which put up a tough resistance, lost due to a late charge from the combined Headquarters team. Ataur Rehman made one try (5 points) to put the winner on course and Bikash Tiwary converted two penalties to complete the scoring. — Principal Correspondent
