NEW DELHI: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Friday hailed the Union Cabinet’s move to withdraw the 61st Constitution Amendment Bill of 1988. The withdrawal of the Bill allowed Sports to remain in the State List instead of being shifted to the Concurrent List. “The IOA has been pleading with the Union Sports Ministry to withdraw the Bill to bring Sports under the Concurrent List… At last, the Union Cabinet realised the importance of IOA’s plea,” IOA President Suresh Kalmadi said in a statement. “The decision (of allowing the subject of Sports to remain in the State List) will certainly encourage the States to give more emphasis on the development of sports,” Mr. Kalmadi said. — Sports Reporter
