SINGAPORE: India continued its good show in the inaugural Asian Youth Games here by winning three more golds on Friday. Two golds came from athletics while the third came from swimming. With today’s three golds, India’s medal tally swelled to five golds, three silvers and two bronzes. Ravi Kumar won gold in the boys’ 800m with a timing of 1:55.91secs. Amir (1:55.93) of Iran was second, while E. Herath (1:56.33) of Sri Lanka was third. In the girls’ 800m, Namita Kabat bagged gold, clocking 2:15.55secs, way ahead of Vietnam’s Thin Than (2:20.43s). Today was the last day of athletics events and India has won four golds, two silvers and two bronzes from the discipline, the fourth best among the participating countries. Aaron Agnel D’souza won the third gold of the day in the boys’ 200m freestyle. D’souza, who led from start-to-finish, clocked 1:52.22secs. Korea’s Jong Won Yong clocked 1:52.80secs for the silver, while another Korean Kwoon Oh-Kook took the bronze in 1:52.86secs. In basketball, Indian boys lost to Singapore 24-34, while the girls’ team also went down 23-34 to China. In beach volleyball, Indian boys failed to reach the quarterfinals as they lost 17-21, 25-27 to Bahrain in the single elimination round. The Indians also did not do well in table tennis, losing to Singapore 0-2 in mixed team quarterfinals. — PTI
