Six new trains for Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI: Six new trains have been proposed for Tamil Nadu in the current railway budget, presented by Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee in Parliament on Friday.

The new trains are: non-stop point-to-point Chennai-Delhi bi-weekly express, weekly Bilaspur–Tirunelveli Junction superfast express via Thiruvananthapuram, bi–weekly Hapa–Tirunelveli superfast express via Thiruvanathapuram, tri-weekly Kanyakumari–Rameswaram express via Madurai, bi-weekly Madurai–Chennai Express and Coimbatore – Shoranur passenger.

The Minister announced that Chennai Central would be developed as a world class station with international facilities through public-private partnership mode. Proposals included extension of the Jammu Tawi–Madurai weekly express to Tirunelveli and Ernakulam–Tiruchirapalli express to Nagore.
