Municipality takes over Kodaikanal Lake

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Kodaikanal Lake, hitherto under the control of the Fisheries Department, has been transferred to the Kodaikanal Municipality. However, the fishing rights will remain with the Fisheries Department, said an official release on Thursday.

A Government Order on the transfer was issued last week.

Development works

Ninety per cent of the revenue earned from the operation of boats and their licence fees would go to the municipality, while the rest would go to the Fisheries Department.

With the increased revenue, development works such as improving roads, providing streetlights, creating parks and improving drinking water supply would be taken up, the release said.

Chairman of the Kodaikanal Municipality S. Mohammed Ibrahim, along with a section of council members, called on Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin at the Secretariat on Thursday and thanked him.
